S310 Swallowing Function in Patients with Vertical Hemipharyngolaryngectomy for Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
Results: Five patients (17%) experienced gastrostomy tube placement, 4 patients (13%) stricture, and 13 (45%) pneumonia. There was a significant difference in the fraction of gastrostomy tube placement among type II VHPL (36%), type I VHPL (0%), and type III VHPL (0%) (p=0.014). Flap size (lager than 70 cm2) was significantly associated with gastrostomy tube placement (p=0.043). No clinical variables were significantly associated with stricture and pneumonia. On videofluoroscopic swallowing studies in six patients with gastrostomy tube placement, swallowing decompensations included reduced laryngeal elevation (83%), epiglottic vallecula stasis (50%), pyriform sinus stasis (100%), decreased pharyngeal contraction (67%), laryngeal penetration/aspiration (100%).

Swallowing function in patients with vertical hemipharyngolaryngectomy for hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term swallowing function in patients with vertical hemipharyngolaryngectomy (VHPL) for hypopharyngeal cancer. METHODS A retrospective review of 30 patients followed for more than 2 years with VHPL between 1998 and 2011 was performed. RESULTS Five patients (16.7%) experienced gastrostomy tube placement, 4 patients (13%) had pharyn...

متن کاملTreatment of Advanced Carcinoma of the Larynx and Hypopharynx with Laser Followed by External Radiotherapy
Introduction: Radical laryngeal surgeries for extensive laryngeal and hypopharyngeal tumors often require a permanent tracheostomy, which has an immense impact on the quality of life of patients. A minimally invasive technique such as transoral laser microresection (TLM) followed by radiotherapy can preserve the functions of the voice and swallowing. The aim of this study is to evaluate the ro...

DESIGN A prospective evaluation of swallowing function was performed on an inception cohort by analyzing posttreatment videoflouroscopic swallow function studies using radiological descriptors ...
متن کاملImproving the Swallowing in Total Glossectomy With Laryngeal Preservation
Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the parameters that might have an impact on swallowing performance after a total glossectomy with laryngeal preservation (TGLP). Methods: Among 39 patients who underwent surgery with curative intent for squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, our retrospective analysis focused on 18 patients treated by TGLP and flap reconstruction. The flap was position...
